Xiao Song Jiang was born in 1955 in Wuhan, China. In 1978, he pursued studies in fine arts at the China Academy of Art, formerly known as the Zhejiang Art Academy. He successfully graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1982 and embarked on a teaching career, instructing watercolor at the City of Wuhan Construction College. After four years, Song was chosen to further refine his skills at the provincial Hubei Art Academy. During his tenure there, he garnered extensive experience by dedicating himself to painting, sketching, and honing his mastery of color and technique.
In the early stages of his career, Song received numerous accolades, establishing himself as a prominent figure in Chinese painting. His artworks were showcased in international art exhibitions spanning the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, Turkey, and Singapore. Notably, his creative prowess earned him the distinction of having four representative works enshrined in the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC), with an additional three works finding a home at the Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum.
In 1988, Song embarked on a journey of immigration to Canada, where he found deep inspiration within the vivid landscapes of North America. His travels took him across the expanse from coast to coast, and over the span of two decades, he cultivated a unique artistic style characterized by a harmonious fusion of brushwork and palette knife technique. His attention to intricate natural details, adept handling of light, shadow, and depth became hallmarks of his artistry. These qualities led to his triumph in numerous awards within North American exhibitions and art festivals.
The allure of the magnificent landscapes and the warmth of the people profoundly influence Jiang's work. Through his paintings, he aspires to convey his deep affection for the North American terrain and its diverse inhabitants.
